Trying Something Different – One of my favorite things about #menswear is that there is no lack of inspiration and new ideas. One such idea to become popular fairly recently amongst the men’s style cognoscenti is the dress shirt under a turtleneck with the collar flipped up. I’ll be honest, the first couple of times I saw it, I didn’t quite understand it. But then after seeing a few more executions, it began to grow on me and I finally worked my way up to giving it a shot.

So, what do you think?

Sorry Wale, you know I’m a big fan of yours, but this is one #menswear trend that needs to die. Just the worst kind of peacocking “sprezz”. It looks better on you than most though. I think maybe because of the chunkier rollneck. Everything else is good, though I would like to see a slimmer leg on the jeans. Beautiful coat.

  2. Rick Says:

Like the coat, but is that collar under a turtle neck not extremely uncomfortable?

  3. BC Says:

Gave you 5 stars, love the coat, love the boots and the white trousers.

Dress shirt under a turtleneck? Plain wrong no matter what cognoscenti might say! And you’ll ruin that shirt in your beard very fast

I’ve never left a comment here before, but wanted to speak up. Despite other remarks, I like the turtleneck/ shirt collar look, especially with the DB coat. The entire ensemble has a Regency/ early Victorian flair to it. Not for everyone or every day, but definitely enjoy it. Also glad to see someone wearing trousers which don’t look like they stole a sister’s leggings. Nicely done.

  5. Nate Says:

Dunno man. Looks more like neck-brace chic to me….

I’ve got to say, I really like posting to Trashness because I’ve come to expect some really straight and often hilarious feedback.

I will say, all it took was this one effort to get it out of my system. Not the most comfortable especially with a beard. Quite frankly, just felt weird but I wore it so I had to own it. The limited range of motion got almost comical at one point as I tried to make a turn while looking out for traffic.

Going to leave this one to the Pitti pros who do this for a living. Would be hard to explain to my car insurance company that I got in a crash because of my outfit choice.

  7. Nate Says:

Ahaha love this. Wale, you are what this site should be all about – not taking things too seriously, and open to constructive feedback. Good on you for trying something new. Keep doing what you’re doing buddy.

  8. Thomas Says:

This is a great look, Wale. To be honest, I only noticed the collar peeking out because you mentioned it. I think the collar thing is completely redundant but you owned it and got it out of your system.

    5 stars.

White trousers and black boots…Mon Dieu!

  10. Sherlock Says:

The outfit is decent but 5 stars to you wale
    For being a nice bloke.

  11. Diego Says:

Grey flannel pants would work better.
